Practice translation activities in the style of the new GCSE.
Worksheet includes a short version of the AQA mark scheme.
I go through the correct translation on the board then get pupils to make corrections and peer assess before I mark their work.
Using these every 2-3 weeks as a 10-15 minute activity, to assess pupils regularly and keep exam skills ticking over, rather than doing a massive exam at the end of each topic.
6-8 week topic on free time, aimed at Year 8 Set 3.Includes sports and hobbies, opinions, perfect tense and TV. Culminates in a Reading assessment.A few slides may be taken from other TES resources. If you recognise your work, many thanks for sharing and let me know if you want to be credited.

Differentiated reading tasks for a very mixed ability top/middle set Y10 French group.
B/C text focuses on recognition and usage of key verbs in the perfect and imperfect tense.
A* version assumes pupils are already confident with the 2 tenses and introduces a range of advanced structures which they can use to develop their work.
Pictures cut out and stick around the room.\n\n1 grid between 2-3 pupils. 1 pupil per team can get up and bring back information to fill in the grid (fill in with the Spanish captions from under the pictures).\n\nExtension (especially if using with KS4) - cards with Spanish descriptions to match up. \n\nPowerpoint gives some clues to help with extension, then goes through answers, then has a quiz to finish.
I have previously uploaded resources for the topic of Holidays which I used with low/mid ability Y8 groups.
These can be found here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/year-8-les-vacances-expo-2-module-5-updated-11067410
This year I find myself teaching top set Y8 and have had to rethink my approach. Here are my new resources (still in progress - will upload as I go - 6 weeks so far).
The infinitives loop resource is not mine, but works really well here. Start the powerpoint, then get a pupil to cover their eyes and say "stop". You press "s" and everyone has to write a sentence using the verb it lands on (correctly conjugated in the perfect tense, of course).
I have also been trying a new approach with homework, attempting to use flipped learning so that pupils arrive with the key basic knowledge they need so we can hit the ground running in the lesson. The following things have been researched at home, which is why they are not presented in the lessons:
-vocab for transport
-perfect tense of regular verbs
-all Mrs Vandertramp verbs
-vocab for accommodation
Lessons focusing on the different types of Crossover questions (those which appear on both Foundation and Higher papers). There are several key question types which appear each year and try to trick candidates using tenses, negatives, 3rd person etc., as red herrings. These lessons aim to alert pupils to these pitfalls by practising past questions so they can avoid being caught out in their exam.Uses 2010-2013 as we used 2014 for a mock recently. Also included is a "walking talking mock" where pupils had just done the 2014 Higher paper and we went through the whole paper question by question to mark their own and understand mistakes. All exam questions are property of Edexcel. Numbers refer to the time on the recording which you can get from the Edexcel website.
Used with high/middle set Y10 classes.
Some mistakes should be obvious enough for all to spot (eg: infinitive instead of past participle) whilst others are more challenging.
Text to introduce a class who are already familiar with the perfect tense of regular and irregular verbs with avoir to the idea of verbs which use etre as the auxiliary.
Used as a challenging lesson for top set Y8 but would be suitable for KS4.
1) Reading for gist - give each paragraph a title (EXT: Come up with your own title for the last line as this doesn't have one provided).
2) Categorise verbs into avoir aux and etre verb (EXT: Identify the 2 types of verb that use etre - movement and reflexives)
3) True or false Qs.
Resources designed to accompany the film (watching the film over the course of 3-4 lessons) in addition to the worksheets added to TES by other teachers.
Includes photo card task, understanding a synopsis, P/N/P+N question based on authentic reviews (from allocine), and students writing their own review.
Powerpoint and worksheet to introduce TV genres to mid/low ability Y8.
-Vocab
-Opinions (inc. recognising plural me gustan)
-Vocab recap (MWBs or chant answers)
-Listening (Mira 2 Express, p.24)
-Write sentences about favourite programme then do a survey
-Guessing game - sentences giving opinions in the plural
Lesson to prepare a bottom set Y9 group for writing about future plans. \n\nSettling starter (wordsearch) followed by team activity to practise using a word mat to write developed sentences.\n\nPupils work in small groups with a mini-whiteboard and a word mat. A sentence appears on the board in English and they have to translate it (most of what they need is in the word mat). \n\nThe team with the most complete answer when the time stops gets a point.
2 different versions of a diary entry about what sports you do on different days, as preparation for a writing assessment.
1 version is for pupils aiming for maximum Level 4 and is all in the present tense. The other includes the perfect tense and the immediate future for pupils working towards Level 5/6. Content (activities/days) is identical so it can all be marked together in class.
Writing assessment for Y9 topic of Healthy Living.
Style of paper is based on the new AQA specification. Primarily Foundation but includes a Higher style translation and opportunity for pupils to complete the main writing task at either Foundation (90 words) or Higher (150 words) level of detail.
A reading task about the real figure behind the character of 'Pere Jean&' in the film &';Au revoir les enfants' (information taken from wikipedia).
I have a mixed ability class, so gave some pupils the version with line numbers as clues to help them cope with the text which is fairly challenging for Y9.
Pupils seemed really interested and shocked by the fact that it was a real-life story, so I hope it works well for you too.
Gapfill activity to consolidate imperfect tense (with contrast with present tense).
This version is the one with clues (first letter of some words) for less able, but can be deleted to make it more challenging.
Part of healthy living topic - used whilst preparing for writing a problem page letter.
